On a sunny Friday afternoon, completely out of the blue, a hummingbird hawk moth visited our beach house. She fluttered in over the railing of the balcony, hovered above the purple violets, and disappeared without a trace… Meanwhile, at our forest house I too spotted this remarkable creature. That could have been the end of the story. Except that the very next day, just as the sun rose behind the clouds, she came back. At almost the exact same time! At the Dianthus flowers, she landed to drink some sweet nectar. Only for the briefest of moments, but long enough for me.
